Building Codes
Ouray County has re-adopted the 2018 International Building Code, 2018 International Code, and the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code. To see the resolution Adopting these codes, please click here.
Please note that foundation inspections must now be completed by your engineer. Per resolution 2021-049:
"Footings, caissons and foundation wall inspections are to be performed by a professional engineer registered in the State of Colorado and any associated costs to be the responsibility of the permittee. After the inspection of the caissons or footers and the foundation wall reinforcing steel, the engineer shall provide to the Building Official a typed stamped report of the results of the inspection. Reports for the caissons or footers must clearly state that they were observed to be in conformance with the engineered design. Report shall also identify any watercourses or ditches on the subject parcel."
Inspection Requests
Hours for the Ouray County Building Inspector are Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. All inspection requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the requested inspection date / time. To schedule an inspection please call 970-318-0021.

Ouray County has adopted a new policy for permitting residential solar/PV systems. Please click here for the new permit application form.
Specific building-related questions should be made directly to the building inspector. Nontechnical questions (zoning, setbacks, fees, etc.) should be referred to the Planning Department, available at the same number.
