Responsibilities 

The County Attorney is responsible for: 
  • Providing comprehensive legal support to the offices and departments of the Ouray County government. 
  • Providing legal advice and service to the Board of County Commissioners and county departments; however, the county attorney does not handle criminal cases. 
  • Representing Ouray County government in court and administrative proceedings. 

Legal Advice


State law requires the Office of the County Attorney to primarily represent the interests of the Board of County Commissioners. The County Attorney’s Office also provides legal services to Ouray County’s elected or appointed officials, various administrative departments, and appointed advisory boards and commissions.

However the county attorney does not handle criminal cases and does not give legal advice or assistance to the general public.
